Taught creative writing at Southern Methodist University, 1948-1950. Mississippi State Public Service Commission, 1958-64. Wrote screenplays for\u00a0several successful films. Received the Rosenwald Fellowship in Fiction, 1947; Eugene F. Saxon Award, 1948; Fulbright Fellowship, 1950; Guggenheim Fellowship, 1953. Story included in O. Henry Prize Stories of 1951.
