Born&#8211; Dallas County, Ala., April 25, 1859. Parents&#8211; Andrew J. and Maria A. Mixon. Married Elizabeth Jackson, 1898 (died 1901).\u00a0 One child.\u00a0 Married Marie W. Mixon. \u00a0Education&#8211; tutors; Selma University. Licensed to preach, 1876; employed as a clergyman, African Methodist Episcopal Church; pastored nine churches and helped to found a number of others;\u00a0presiding elder, Birmingham District,\u00a0Selma District, Greensboro, Montgomery, and Troy; teacher-principal, Decatur; editor of the local African-American newspaper, the\u00a0Dallas Post. Helped found the Payne School in Selma in 1889; served as secretary-treasurer and as chairman of the executive board of the school. Awarded an honorary Doctorate of Divinity by Wilberforce University, 1897.
